Liturgical Ministries

Liturgy Commission Member

Join others in visioning, planning and implementing this community’s worship. This ministry’s goal is to promote full, conscious, and active participation in all our liturgies by all the assembly. We do this though careful liturgy planning, through working to develop the various ministries and by working to educate our community about liturgy and the liturgical life of the parish. Ongoing education is provided. We meet the last Monday of the month. The only skills needed are a love of Catholic liturgy and the willingness to learn.

Lector

A Lector proclaims the Scripture readings at Mass with reverence and understanding. They should have a love for God’s Word and the desire to study it more deeply. Lectors are adults or teenagers who have been confirmed. They should be dependable and have a clear speaking voice. Training and guidance is provided. Lectors are scheduled on a rotating basis.

Eucharistic Ministers

The Eucharistic Minister helps the celebrant with the distribution of the Eucharist. They should be an adult or teenager who has been confirmed; and, who has a love and reverence for the Eucharist. Training sessions are provided as needed. Eucharistic Ministers are scheduled on a rotating basis.

Acolyte (Server)

Acolytes assist the presider during Mass by holding the Sacramentary, helping at the presentation of the gifts, carrying the cross and “other duties as assigned” by the presider. To be an acolyte, you must have received First Communion. You must have the ability to be attentive and reverent during Mass. You must be dependable. Training is provided. Acolytes must be willing to serve on a rotating basis.

Mass Coordinator

Mass Coordinators are asked to arrive 20 to 30 minutes before Mass starts to insure that everything is in place for the celebration of the Mass. They assist the priest in making sure all the Acolytes, Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers have arrived and are checked in. Mass Coordinators are asked to stay 10 to 15 minutes after Mass to insure that everything is put away properly and that everything is in place for the next Mass. Training is provided on an ongoing basis. The only skills needed are an attention to detail, a willingness to learn and a desire to be of service.

Sacristan

Sacristans are responsible for laundering, ironing, polishing, organizing and cleaning any items that are used for the Mass or kept in the Sacristy. This is a great ministry for someone who wants a flexible schedule – you can work when it is convenient for you. Training and direction are provided. The only skill you need is a desire to be of service.

Hospitality/Greeters

Families and/or individuals who wish to help this community make sure our visitors and newcomers are welcomed with a warm smile and a greeting. These ministers let visitors know of our joy that they are with us, they hand out worship aides and bulletins, and they help set a tone of warmth and welcome at all liturgical functions. These ministers also are asked to bring the gifts to the altar at the Presentation of the Gifts. Training is provided as needed.

Ministry of Bread

Our bakers prepare a simple flour-and-water bread for Sunday Eucharist. The only qualifications needed are a love of the Eucharist and the ability to follow simple instructions. We bake in the Parish Center on the Second Monday of each month. Teams of bakers are scheduled on a rotating basis, usually 3 to 4 times a year.

Liturgical Environment

This group coordinates church décor for liturgical seasons, feasts and sacramental celebrations. The skills needed are a love for liturgy, an eye for beauty, creativity with flowers, plants and/or fabric and a willingness to learn about the norms for church environment. Talented people with knowledge of woodworking, metalworking, glass, ceramics, flower arranging or textiles (including sewing, weaving, embroidery, or appliqué) are always needed.
